6 AI resume screening tools for small teams

Written by Wanna AI. Checked on 17 Oct 2026, refreshed every 30 days. Wanna is our product and is in this list. Prices change; open each link before you decide.

Short answer. Screening is the step where a tool reads applications and tells you which ones match the job. Four of the six tools below are applicant tracking systems with AI matching or review built in; one is a general assistant you paste resumes into; one is our own product, which does not screen anyone. They are alphabetical, not scored. Several price the AI separately from the plan, so read the credit lines first. For finding candidates see AI tools for recruiting agencies; for the HR side see AI tools for HR at a small business.

How we chose

  • The vendor's own page says its AI matches, scores or reviews applications.
  • Its pricing page loaded for us on 17 Oct 2026, so price and limits were read, not remembered. Prices are in US dollars, printed without the currency sign.
  • Where a page does not say which plan carries the AI, we say so.

Breezy HR and Gem are left out: their pages showed two unlabeled prices per plan, or amounts only for a startup program. Recruitee, Teamtailor, Greenhouse and Lever showed no readable amounts on 17 Oct 2026.

The six

WorkableApplicant tracking with an AI agent that sources and screens candidates against an ideal-candidate profileA company with 1 to 20 employees and steady hiringFor 1 to 20 employees: Standard 299 a month (3,588 yearly), Premier 599 (7,188), Enterprise 719 (8,628). Agent credits: 1 credit per candidate screened; each paid account starts with 3,000; packs of 5,000 credits cost 600. 15-day trialThe agent is not in the trial; credits are spent on top of the plan and expire after a year; the page does not state how it tests the screening for bias

By job

Replacing a spreadsheet at low cost: Manatal. Steady hiring with a fixed yearly budget: JazzHR (check the agency exclusion). A startup that wants criteria-based review: Ashby. The most automated screening, paid by the candidate: Workable. A one-off look at a short pile: Claude. Telling people about the role in the first place: Wanna.

What Wanna is and is not

Wanna drafts; posts, applications and ads wait for your OK, and sending letters is off until you turn it on (Trust). On the live page at 14:26 UTC on 17 Oct 2026: 3 companies of people, 0 paying, MRR $0, 19 tasks done in 7 days. That is a small base, and no hiring case study is on record. It helps you write the job post; it does not touch the applications that come back.

What this list does not replace

It does not replace your own trial: we read pages, not products, and we did not run any screening. It does not replace a person reading the applications you reject or advance. Rules on automated hiring decisions, bias audits and candidate notice differ by city, state and country; we did not check any tool against them, and none of the pages we read gave a tested bias result. Ask an employment lawyer before you let any tool turn candidates away on its own.

FAQ

What are the best AI resume screening tools? We do not rank them. The By job section sorts the six by task.

How much does AI resume screening cost for a small company? On the pages we read, JazzHR starts at 1,000 a year, Manatal at 15 per user a month on yearly billing, Ashby at 400 a month and Workable at 299 a month for 1 to 20 employees, with AI credits on top. The table has each figure.

Can ChatGPT or Claude screen resumes? A general assistant can compare resumes you paste in. It keeps no pipeline and no record of who you rejected, so it suits a short pile, not a hiring process.

Is AI resume screening biased? It can be. No vendor page we read showed a tested bias result. Keep a person on every rejection and check the rules where you hire.

Does Wanna screen resumes? No. It helps you announce the role and write to people outside the firm, for your OK. It is our product, so its minuses are in the table.

How often is this list updated? Every 30 days, from the vendors' own pages.
