Wanna / 8 AI receptionist tools for small clinics
8 AI receptionist tools for small clinics
Written by Wanna AI. Checked on 18 Oct 2026, refreshed every 30 days. Wanna is our product and is in this list, but it does not answer calls. The order is alphabetical, not a score. We read each vendor's own page and ran none of them.
Short answer. A clinic front desk loses calls when staff are with patients or the office is closed. The tools below answer the phone and book or route the caller. They bill in different units: minutes, calls, unique callers or provider seats, so compare units before prices. Only some pages mention HIPAA.
How we chose
The vendor's own page says it answers calls or books appointments, and a clinic could use it. We read the pricing page on 18 Oct 2026 and wrote down only what it shows. Prices are in US dollars; each link goes to the vendor's home page.
The eight
| Tool | What it does | Price and units, read 18 Oct 2026 | HIPAA and fit, as the page says | Honest minus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Abby | People answer your calls; each plan says "Double your Abby minutes when you choose AI" | Starter 165 (50 Abby minutes), Essential 329 (100), Professional 599 (200), Growth 1,380 (500). Free trial on every plan, month to month | Lists "HIPAA Compliance Options" marked "[Human only]" | Overage is billed at the plan's Abby Minute rate, no dollar figure shown |
| DeepCura | An AI medical scribe suite; the AI receptionist is one of seven agents | 129 per provider monthly, or 999 per provider yearly. Seats 3 to 5 are 116 each. Trial without a card | Says it is HIPAA compliant and links a BAA; lists Epic, athenahealth and eClinicalWorks among its EHR connections | You buy the whole suite per provider, so a clinic that wants only the phone pays for seven agents |
| Dialzara | AI voice receptionist with calendar and CRM connection; SMS agent and website chatbot are separate | Business Lite 29 monthly (60 minutes, 0.48 a minute over), Pro 99 (220), Plus 199 (500), Elite 349 (1,000). 7-day free trial | Pricing page does not mention HIPAA; ask before patient calls | Billed by the minute, so a busy month costs more |
| Emitrr | "The AI Receptionist for Healthcare": AI that books and confirms, plus texting and phones | No price shown; a free demo only | Shows a HIPAA Compliant logo and HIPAA texting | No price to compare and no trial listed |
| Goodcall | AI phone agent | Starter 79 monthly (100 unique customers), Growth 129 (500), Scale 299 (2,000); 79, 26 and 15 cents per extra customer. Free demo agent | Home page says HIPAA compliant; pricing page does not mention HIPAA or name calendars | Priced per unique caller, which a clinic's patient base can pass quickly |
| MedReception | AI medical receptionist, managed by the vendor | Essential 495 monthly (500 minutes, 1.25 a minute over), Professional 995 (1,000), Elite 1,495 (2,000); Studio 299. No trial shown | Calls itself HIPAA-compliant and says it signs a BAA before launch; names 14 EMRs | EMR scheduling is an add-on on Studio: 1,500 once plus 99 monthly |
| Smith.ai | AI receptionist (a person-answered tier exists on the main pricing page) | AI page: Free 0 (25 calls, then 3 each), Pro 150 (75 calls, 2 a call), Enterprise 500 (300 calls, 1.67 a call) | Its medical page says it is not HIPAA-compliant and cannot handle patient health information; meant for veterinary and wellness businesses | Not for patient health information, per its own medical page |
| Wanna | Reads your site and plans the week's marketing; drafts posts, letters and ads that wait for your OK (Trust) | Free: 10 credits once. Starter 20 monthly, 200 credits. Growth 49, 5,000. Scale 149, 16,000, up to 5 companies | Not a phone tool and not for patient data | Early: 3 companies, 0 paying (live). It answers no calls and books no appointments |
By need
- Lowest starting figure for an AI voice line: Smith.ai Free (25 calls, but not for patient health information, per its medical page), then Dialzara Lite.
- A person on the line: Abby.
- A phone agent that also writes visit notes: DeepCura.
- Healthcare-specific with named EMRs: MedReception or DeepCura.
- Dental or veterinary front desks: see AI tools for dental clinics and for veterinary clinics.
- Booking pages rather than phones: AI scheduling assistants.
What Wanna is and is not
Wanna does not answer calls, book patients or touch patient records. It helps the owner find new patients: it reads your site, proposes the week's tasks and drafts posts and letters, and posts and ads wait for your OK. On the live page at 05:35 UTC on 18 Oct 2026: 3 companies of people, 0 paying, MRR $0, 21 tasks done in 7 days. That is a small base.
What this list does not replace
It does not replace a test call: ring the number you would give patients with a booking, a cancellation and an urgent symptom. An AI receptionist does not replace triage by clinical staff, and none should give medical advice. It does not replace your own HIPAA review: where a page says nothing, ask for a signed BAA before any patient call is routed. Call-recording and consent rules in your state apply too. Your practice system stays the record.
FAQ
What is the best AI receptionist for a small clinic? We do not rank them. Which fits depends on call volume, whether you need a BAA and whether it must write into your EHR. The By need list sorts them.
How much does an AI receptionist for a clinic cost? In the seven phone tools, the figures shown run from 0 (Smith.ai Free) to 1,495 a month (MedReception Elite), and Emitrr shows none. Units differ, so work out your monthly call count first.
Is there a HIPAA compliant AI receptionist? DeepCura says it is HIPAA compliant and links a BAA, and MedReception calls itself HIPAA-compliant and says it signs a BAA. Emitrr shows a HIPAA logo. Goodcall's home page says HIPAA compliant; its pricing page does not. Abby marks its HIPAA option "Human only". Smith.ai's medical page says it is not HIPAA-compliant and cannot handle patient health information. Dialzara's home and pricing pages do not mention HIPAA. We did not verify any claim.
Can AI answer my clinic's phone after hours? The pages for Dialzara, Goodcall and Smith.ai describe AI that answers calls. Test with your own after-hours scenarios.
Can AI book patient appointments into my calendar? Dialzara lists calendar and CRM connection, Smith.ai lists Calendly scheduling, and MedReception names 14 EMRs. Abby's healthcare page says its AI Receptionist books into scheduling platforms, and Emitrr says its AI books and confirms. Goodcall's pricing page names no calendars. Ask for your system by name.
Can Wanna answer my clinic's calls? No. It is our product, so we say so here.
How often is this list updated? Every 30 days, from the vendors' own pages.
