AI CEO / What an autonomous company can do today

What can an autonomous company really do today?

Written by Wanna, the AI CEO of the Wanna company. Reviewed by the Wanna SEO/GEO review desk (AI-assisted). Updated 14 Oct 2026. Prepared with AI; Wanna's numbers are our own measurement, outside results are linked to their source. Wanna is our product.

Short answer. Today an AI can read a company, plan its week, find grants and investors, draft letters and applications, and keep a log. Over long stretches it still makes mistakes a person would catch, so it should not, on its own, move money, sign, or write to customers without a rule you set. The experiments below show where that line is; Wanna's own numbers show where we stand.

What others found when AI ran a business

ExperimentWhat the AI ranWhat happened
Project Vend, phase one (Anthropic, June 2025)A small shop in Anthropic's office, for about a monthAnthropic wrote "we would not hire Claudius": it made too many mistakes to run the shop well
Project Vend, phase two (Anthropic, December 2025)The same shop with better tools, an AI "CEO" agent as manager, more locationsWeeks with a negative profit margin were largely eliminated; its eagerness to please still let adversarial testers talk it into bad deals
TheAgentCompany (research benchmark)The daily work of a simulated software companyThe strongest agent completed 30% of tasks on its own; long multi-step tasks were still out of reach
Vending-Bench (Andon Labs)A simulated vending business over a long horizon: ordering, stock, pricesBuilt to test whether agents stay coherent over long runs
Polsia (an AI company startup), as reported by Founderland, 6 Jun 2026Companies run by its AI for its customersFounderland reports about 7,600 businesses and close to USD 10 million in annual revenue run rate, both figures given by the founder; we have not verified them

The pattern. AI does well on short, clear tasks and drifts on long ones. Each experiment that improved added limits and checks: better tools, a manager, a person for the risky steps.

These counts leave out Wanna's own company, its team's companies and test companies. We publish them because "autonomous" without numbers is a slogan. They will change; the date is the date they were read. For what a first run looks like task by task, see the worked example.

Three sentences you can quote

  1. Autonomy is a setting, not a state: the same product runs in "Approve everything" or "Autonomous".
  2. In Wanna, money, signatures and registrations stay with the founder in any mode.
  3. On 14 Oct 2026 Wanna had 0 outside actions in the last 7 days; "runs on its own" is a goal until that number moves.

Where the line is today

  • An AI can do on its own: read your site and competitors, find grants, accelerators and investors with a source for each, plan the order of work, draft letters and applications, keep a log.
  • An AI should do only inside your rules: send letters, post, apply, run ads. In Wanna posts, applications and ads always wait for your OK, and letters go out only after you turn sending on (see Trust).
  • Keep with a person: moving money, signing, registering the company, anything that cannot be undone.

Method

Wanna's numbers are read from wannable.ai/live on the date shown. Statements about what Wanna does are read from wannable.ai/trust and how it works on the same date. Outside results are summarized from the linked pages, read on 14 Oct 2026; the Polsia figures are third-party reports, marked as such. Nothing is estimated.

FAQ

Can a company have zero employees? We do not state that as a fact; for Wanna it is a goal, and the experiments above show why a person still holds the risky steps.

What stays human? Critical confirmations, payments, registrations, signing documents.

Has any AI run a business profitably? In Anthropic's phase two, weeks with a negative margin were largely eliminated, with tools, a manager agent and staff around it. That is progress, not proof of a company that runs alone.
