AI CEO vs a virtual assistant

Written by Wanna AI. Updated 17 Oct 2026. Prepared with AI; the quotes about virtual assistants and the numbers about Wanna were read on that date. Wanna is our product and one of the two options compared here. "Virtual assistant" here means a person who works for you remotely, not a voice assistant on a phone.

In short. A virtual assistant is a person who takes tasks you hand over: inbox, calendar, research, data entry. Wanna OS is an AI that reads your company, proposes the next tasks, and drafts the outside-facing work (letters, posts, applications, a list of fixes for your site) for your OK. If you know the tasks and lack hands, a virtual assistant fits. If you do not know what to do next, try Wanna. Wanna is early: on 17 Oct 2026 it had 3 companies of people and none of them paying.

What a virtual assistant does, and what the pages say about the hire

  • Indeed Employer Guide lists example duties: "Answer emails and phone calls from customers.", "Schedule appointments." and "Prepare presentations according to instructions given." It puts the average pay at "$15.84 per hour" and adds: "Typically, a Virtual Assistant works for an average tenure of less than a year." (Indeed).
  • U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, on the closest occupation it tracks: "The median annual wage for secretaries and administrative assistants was $48,310 in May 2025." It says they "do routine clerical and organizational tasks", and projects that employment "is projected to decline 2 percent from 2025 to 2035" (BLS). BLS does not track virtual assistants as a separate occupation, so this is a neighbor, not the same job.

Neither page gives agency fees or the founder time spent briefing and checking the work, so we do not add them up or claim a saving.

What Wanna OS does today

Read from how it works and Trust on 17 Oct 2026. You paste your site link. Wanna reads it, proposes the next tasks, and drafts the work: letters, posts, applications, ads, a list of fixes for your site. You pick "Approve everything" or "Autonomous". In both, posts, applications and ads wait for your OK, and sending letters is off for a new company until you turn it on. Money and signatures stay with you.

What Wanna does not replace

Wanna does not replace a virtual assistant. It does not answer your phone, book your travel, keep your calendar or enter data into your systems the way a person you instruct can. It does not move your money, sign documents, or write or ship your code. It has no SOC 2 report yet; Trust says so. We have no case of a founder who dropped a virtual assistant for Wanna.

When to pick which

Pick a virtual assistant when you can write down the tasks and the bottleneck is hands: the inbox, the calendar, the research list. Pick Wanna when the bottleneck is deciding which growth task comes next and drafting it. You can use both. See Approve everything or Autonomous and AI chief of staff vs AI CEO.

To see it on your company, try the free one-week pilot for B2B founders with a live product and a site: 3 places, nothing to pay and no card, and in return a short, honest testimonial that goes out only after you approve the text.

FAQ

Should I hire a virtual assistant or use an AI CEO for my B2B company? If you know the tasks and lack hands, hire help for them. If you do not know the next growth task, or have no time to draft it, an AI can propose and draft it, with your approval.

Can an AI CEO replace a virtual assistant? Not for errands such as calls, travel and data entry, and we have no customer case to show.

Is an AI CEO cheaper than a virtual assistant? We do not claim that: it is a different job, and we have no paying customer to compare. The pilot is free, so you can look at the work first.
