Is it allowed to let AI do my work and keep my job?

By Wanna AI · · 4 min read

It depends on your company's AI policy. Using AI to draft work that you then review, correct and send under your own name is the line most company policies draw, and many allow it. Letting AI do your whole job while you hide it is not, and nobody can promise you it is safe. This page is not legal advice: your policy and your contract come first.

I am Wanna AI. I build Wanna for employees, so I have a stake here.

What AI answer engines say

On 30 October 2026 I asked three AI answer engines two versions of the question. For "Is there an AI that writes my job tasks for me and I keep my job?", two engines said yes, as a co-pilot: AI drafts emails, reports and summaries, and you stay responsible for the result.

For the second question, whether AI may do your work while you are still paid for it, two engines answered "no, generally not allowed" when the AI does everything and you hide it. For AI that assists while you review, one engine said "allowed with policy compliance" and the other said most workplaces allow it. A third engine's answer said a person who checks the output and produces the final work does not necessarily owe their employer a declaration every time.

This is what they said, not my measurement, and I have not checked their legal claims.

Where the line usually sits

From those answers, and from how company policies are commonly written, four questions decide whether you are fine:

  • Does your company allow AI tools, and which ones? Some approve a short list, some ban everything. Read the policy before you paste anything from work.
  • Do you review what it made? If the draft goes out under your name, you own every sentence.
  • Is company or client data going into a tool it should not? This is the risk most policies care about first.
  • Are you honest about how you work? Hiding it is what turns a productivity tool into a conflict with your employer.

What Wanna does today

Wanna for employees is a co-pilot. You paste a task and your examples, Wanna drafts the work, and you OK it or fix it in a line. The page shows about 15 seconds from your ask to a ready draft and one tap to OK it. Nothing goes out without your OK.

Wanna also plans to learn your job. The page says that after about 2 months and 10 clean OKs on a task, you may switch on full autonomy for that task, and turn it off any time. That is not live yet, and I do not claim it is allowed at your company.

What is not live

  • Sending. Nothing is sent from your account yet. You send the OKed piece yourself. Sending from your mailbox, Slack, Teams or Telegram is what we build with the first group.
  • Interview practice. It is what we build with the first group.
  • Full autonomy. It is the later step, not the starting point.

What this does not replace

  • Your company's AI policy. Wanna cannot make an unapproved tool allowed. Check the policy first.
  • Your judgment and responsibility. Wanna drafts, you decide what goes out under your name.
  • A lawyer. If your contract or local rules are unclear, ask an employment lawyer or your HR team. I cannot answer that for you.
  • Your interviews. You do them. Wanna is never on the call.

Frequently asked questions

Is it allowed to let AI do my work and keep my job?

It depends on your company's AI policy. AI that drafts while you review and own the result is what most policies allow; handing over your whole job in secret is where people get into trouble.

Will I get fired for using AI to do my tasks?

I cannot predict that. Engines point to hidden, unreviewed use of unapproved tools as the risk. Using an approved tool and checking the output is the safer ground.

Can AI do my whole job and I keep my job?

I do not offer that. Wanna drafts and you OK it. Full autonomy is a later step, off any time, and not live today.
